ACORN does it again. This year there was $35 million dollars of homeland security funding available for Fire Safety. Of all of the Fire Departments requesting grants in Louisina, One fire department received $192,000 and the Louisiana State Fire Marshall’s Office received $62,000. But apparently the people at Homeland Security thought more money was needed in Louisiana, so they gave ACORN $997,402.
Let me say this again, so it sinks in. This money is for FIRE SAFETY! These guys don’t fight fires. They don’t educate about fires. I went to the ACORN Website. The about page said nothing about fire safety. The mission statement reads:
“The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) aims to organize a majority consituency of low- to moderate-income people across the United States. The members of ACORN take on issues of relevance to their communities, whether those issues are discrimination, affordable housing, a quality education, or better public services. ACORN believes that low- to moderate-income people are the best advocates for their communities, and so ACORN’s low- to moderate-income members act as leaders, spokespeople, and decision-makers within the organization.”
So, can somebody tell me why ACORN deserves a million dollars of Fire Prevention money while our Firefighters get the shaft?
