Don't be fooled. Government officials don't really believe in Net Neutrality.

Let’s talk about Net Neutrality. Recently, Minnesota Senator Al Franken wrote an opinion piece for CNN that touted the need for net neutrality. What is net neutrality you ask? Net Neutrality is defined on Wikipedia as

Internet traffic should be treated equally.[9] Net neutrality advocates have established three principal definitions of network neutrality:

Columbia Law School professor Tim Wu: “Network neutrality is best defined as a network design principle. The idea is that a maximally useful public information network aspires to treat all content, sites, and platforms equally.”[2] According to Imprint Magazine, University of Michigan Law School professor Susan P. Crawford “believes that a neutral Internet must forward packets on a first-come, first served basis, without regard for quality-of-service considerations.”[10]

Quality of service discrimination as long as no special fee is charged for higher-quality service.[11]

Tim Berners-Lee: “If I pay to connect to the Net with a given quality of service, and you pay to connect to the net with the same or higher quality of service, then you and I can communicate across the net, with that quality of service.”[1] “[We] each pay to connect to the Net, but no one can pay for exclusive access to me.”[12]

Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? Well, the concept is very good and most free-thinking Americans both liberal and conservative support it…..in concept. But therein lies the rub. When you start passing laws to require a thing, you have to put someone in charge of that thing to make sure the law is enforced. Still doesn’t sound bad. However, the last two bills introduced in Congress decided that the FCC should have jurisdiction over the internet in order to enforce net neutrality. The only problem with that, is that all of the other FCC powers would come with that.

So what they are trying to do is allow the FCC to control the internet in the United States. That means it would be subject to the same rules that television and radio are subject to now. It would give them the power to decide what is and isn’t appropriate. So, while the net neutrality laws proposed take the power away from corporations, it doesn’t give it to the individual, but the government. As we have seen throughout history, a government takeover of anything has never been better. Remember that these are the same people who proposed last year and are pushing again this year to give the President of the United States a “kill switch” on the internet during a national emergency.

So, this is why you see conservatives and libertarians arguing against something that seems like a no-brainer. Net Neutrality is a no-brainer. Government control of the internet can never be allowed. Don’t be fooled by the hype, make sure you know what they are proposing under the guise of “net neutrality”.

At its simplest network neutrality is the principle that all Internet traffic should be treated equally.[9] Net neutrality advocates have established three principal definitions of network neutrality:

Absolute non-discrimination

Limited discrimination and tiering

This approach allows higher fees for QoS as long as there is no exclusivity in service contracts.

I just read a headline on FoxNews that read “Can WhiteHouse Fix Mideast Deadlock?”

I have to say that I get so tired of these kind of headlines. How many things are we going to make the government take responsibility for fixing? This is an argument between Isreal and Palestine. The root of this fight goes back centuries.

Why do we thrust this kind of responsibility on our government? Aside from the fact that there are so many facets of our lives that should not include the government, by expecting it to “fix” things beyond its control is only setting it up to fail and disappoint.

The government isn’t God. It’s time the people of this country stop treating it that way.

Our friend Anne Harpen, who wrote and performed our theme song “Walk the Streets in Anger” participated in this project.

The following is the blurb that goes with the video on YouTube.

On April 15, 2010 a group of conservative singers, song writers and musicians came together at Studio 8121 in Silver Spring, Maryland to record a group performance of The Power of the Dream.

The project was born only eight days before the session. Funding had to be raised to pay for the studio time. The group actually wrote the song in a four day period with only 36 hours to spare before the session. The result was that there was no time to properly record the piece in the traditional manner of laying down the instrumental tracks and putting the vocals over them. So all the singers had to go by in the studio was a lone acoustic guitar track.

However, those werent the only hurdles the group faced. Since there were several Tax Day rallies that had taken place on the day of recording, the session couldnt start until 10:30 PM. Voices were tired. Bodies were spent. This really shouldnt have happened. From start to finish the obstacles were simply too big.

But when the lyrics wouldnt come to those writing the song, they prayed and the words showed up. When people were too exhausted to keep their eyes open, much less sing, they prayed and a joyful noise was lifted up.

In a total of roughly four hours at Jays Place Recording in Nashville, Tennessee on April 28 and 29 Producer Phillip Rogers brought the music and the voices together. We are now deeply please and honored to announce that The Power of the Dream is complete and is both beautiful and inspiring.

The song is the title cut on a compilation CD that will include works by Phillip Rogers, Chris Cassone; Lisa Mei Norton; Bobby Powers and Party Time, with Bobby Powers, Robin Gordon, Michael Marino, Tony Rook; The Rivoli Revue, with Ron and Kay Rivoli; Anne Marie Harpen; Dan Rivers; Sherry Marquelle; Diana Nagy; Rob Stanley; and Norm Cady. Additionally, many other performers who were not able to make it to Silver Spring that night will have their music represented on the CD as well. Although this list is growing, it now includes Lucas Hoge; Hi Caliber; Tommy Z; Twenty Pound Sledge with AlfonZo Rachel; James Kole; Band of Patriots; Tom Kemner; and Brion Butterbaugh.
The Proceeds of this project will go to benefit Americas Mighty Warriors, which is an organization whose mission is to render aid and comfort to military families especially those who have lost loved ones in the wars. Americas Mighty Warriors was founded by Debbie Lee whose son Marc Allen Lee was the first Navy SEAL killed in Iraq while performing an act of conspicuous bravery.

While we have gotten through the process of producing the song, there is more to do and we need your help. The real expense now comes with producing the CDs. If you wish to become involved in pushing this project through to completion you can go to www.americasmightywarriors.org where you can make a tax deductable donation. If you or your organization would like to be listed in the liner notes of this project you may do so through the donation of $1,000.00 or more. Any funds over what is needed for completion of the project will go into the treasury of Americas Mighty Warriors.

We would also invite all who believe in the American Dream to share with us what your American Dream is (250 words or less please).

Ok, I’m going to give an opinion here that is probably not going to sit well with people, but when you look past the emotion, you’re going to see that I’m right.

After waking up this morning, I began my routine of going through the news sites. I ran across a story on Fox News about the poor families of the college students from Lynn University who have not been located. The story is about the families anger at the US Government for their inability to locate the children or (hopefully not) their bodies.

The story quotes Leonard Gengel, the father of one of the missing girls as slamming his fist on a table and yelling, “We know our daughter was there and we want them to find her!”
A little background here, some students and staff from Lynn University embarked on a trip to Haiti to deliver food and visit schools and orphanages. This was a trip organized by the College. (Who has hired private rescue teams to try to find the missing staff and students) This was a case of private citizens embarking on a private venture to a foreign country.

Let me be clear. I cannot begin to imagine the hell that these families are experiencing. However, that does not make this the problem of the United States government. As I said before, private citizens embarking on a private venture in a foreign country does not require the US Government to blaze in and ignore the overall mission to answer the concerns of the families. Haiti lost over 200,000 people. The are burying hundreds at a time in mass graves just to deal with health concerns. The resources of the aid that we have sent are to try to save the living. That is the priority.

We all have been very clear about how we feel with the Banks and the Automakers. It applies here as well. When private citizens embark on private ventures, and things don’t go as planned; it is not the responsibility of the United States Government to send the cavalry in to the rescue. As I said before, I sympathize with their pain. I pray to God that they will find answers, and hopefully good ones. But, I cannot condone the anger at our government for not finding them.
