How to deal with Gay Marriage without infringing on religion or discriminating against the citizens of this country?

Ok, so there seems to be this big issue about Gay Marriage. California is up in arms about it on both sides. Carrie Prejean was drummed out of Miss USA over it. Glenn Beck is being beaten up for his lack of opposition to it, and Brad and Angelina won’t get married until it’s settled. For some strange reason it’s a big issue.

Mike Huckabee said, “I don’t have to prove that marriage is a man and a woman in a relationship for life. They have to prove that two men can have an equally definable relationship called marriage, and somehow that that can mean the same thing.”

Well, Governor, I see how you came to this conclusion. While we agree on many things, when it comes to this, I respectfully disagree. When it comes to religion, you are correct. However, when the people in the history of this country, for some strange reason, decided to involve the government in marriage, then it shifted the burden of proof onto those who would tell citizens of this country that they do not have the same rights as other citizens.

So, here is the conundrum: We believe in equal protection under the law, and we believe in freedom of religion. So, how do we allow the people whose religion does not accept homosexuality to maintain their “sanctity” of marriage without discriminating against other citizens of our free nation?

My best friend and I were talking and had worked up a solution. I think the main point was his and we expounded on it enough that I will say it was his idea and I put some window dressing on it.

Anyway what we discussed was this:

First: The government needs to get out of marriage. It should not be defined by government whatsoever. Leave it to the individual churches to define marriage and then people can marry based on their religion. The GLBT community can choose churches where gay marriage is accepted and cherished. Those who oppose it can choose churches that feel the same and can continue to not acknowledge the gay marriages as they see fit. Everyone can address marriage according to his or her religious beliefs.

Now, what about things like division of assets, custody, things like that? These are huge issues in today’s modern world. We have a solution for that. Each state can draft up a basic generic contract that divides all assets 50/50, grants medical power of attorney, and shares custody of any future children of the relationship. This contract will be available for the price of the former marriage license. Go down to the courthouse, pay your money, sign the contract and have it notarized and you are good to go. It’s that simple. But what if it isn’t that simple? What if it’s more complicated? Then you go to an attorney and draft the contract that you want. Then have it signed and notarized. This is essentially the same thing that happens with marriage now, only it reduces the government’s involvement to what it really should be and that is arbiter of the contract.

So now, we have equality across the board without the government getting involved in anyone’s religion. All it takes is the first state to sign on. That state could remove the government’s involvement in marriage. It could give it’s constituents 6 months to obtain a new contract. (For those already married, you could waive the fee. ) Then when someone moves into the state who is married, you could give them 3 months to obtain a contract. After that, they cannot divorce in the state and they have no marital rights in the state. Then maybe it would catch on. I think this would be a good compromise for everyone on both sides of this discussion and I hope we can discuss this more.

The Government isn't God!

I just read a headline on FoxNews that read “Can WhiteHouse Fix Mideast Deadlock?”

I have to say that I get so tired of these kind of headlines. How many things are we going to make the government take responsibility for fixing? This is an argument between Isreal and Palestine. The root of this fight goes back centuries.

Why do we thrust this kind of responsibility on our government? Aside from the fact that there are so many facets of our lives that should not include the government, by expecting it to “fix” things beyond its control is only setting it up to fail and disappoint.

The government isn’t God. It’s time the people of this country stop treating it that way.

The following was submitted by Joe C.

Where is the outrage…………..

Again I ask you where is the outrage.

Right now we have an Oil Spill the likes the world has never seen, yet our Gov’t is silent.

BP has been Obama’s biggest supporter, cash wise for years.

The stock market just dropped 1000pts because someone made a “Mistake” and hit the wrong button, (supposedly).

England is having an election to end all elections, has anyone seen the election posters? Look familiar?

Comedy Central folds under the pressure from a Muslim website, so they don’t say or show Mohamed, yet plans to make a “cartoon parody” about Jesus Christ.

Freddy Mac is asking for MORE money. (11 billion).

The Gov’t created more jobs in the Gov’t than the private sector did for the third month in a row.

Our new One Hundred Dollar bill looks like a Euro.

The news reports, what they think we should know, yet no one complains.

We will probably give 111,000,000 illegal aliens permanent status, that’s 111 MILLION people , that we pay for.

Arizona passes a law to keep their citizens safe and the GOV. thinks it’s unfair and unconstitutional. The next day immigration picks up 500 illegals, not bad for not knowing where any of them were.

Connecticut just Banned plastic water bottles, they’re bad for the environment…………

Let’s talk about how many people will become UNEMPLOYED if more states ban water bottles.

Students in the bay area were told to leave school or get suspended for WEARING AMERICAN FLAG T SHIRTS on May 5th, Cinco Dey Mayo.

The school was afraid of offending the Mexican population.

The Feds just hired 600, 000 census workers……….FOR WHAT?

All temporary workers who can collect unemployment after their done working for the Gov.

The Fed’s are pushing for more broadband regulations, the cost of cable, phone and internet will skyrocket.

Newspapers are being put out of business; all the major networks report the same news.

America………..wake up!!!!!!!!

Whether you agree or not, just think about it.

The only Jew Obama likes is the one sending dead fish to reporters.

Israel who?

“Let me be absolutely clear. Israel is a strong friend of Israel’s. It will be a strong friend of Israel’s under a McCain…administration. It will be a strong friend of Israel’s under an Obama administration. So that policy is not going to change.” –Barack Obama: Amman, Jordan, July 22, 2008

While this was obviously just a slip of the tongue, it was a peek into the policies of the future Obama Administration. Since he took office, the only friend Israel has had is itself. I have never seen an American president be so hostile to our allies. He has treated Israel with the same animosity he has towards our enemies. Of course, maybe in his mind Israel is an enemy.

Let’s be honest, the only Jew Obama likes is the one sending dead fish to reporters. I’ve seen Palestinians who are friendlier towards Israel than this president. Yet an American Jewish Commission poll showed Obama retains a 57% approval rating among the Jewish Community and 55% approve of his Israeli policy. Really? Wake up people! This man is an enemy of Israel. Just ask the people of Israel. Back in September the Jerusalem Post reported that only 4% of Israelis believe that Obama is pro-Israel and 55% believe he is pro-Palestinian. That sounds about right to me.

I feel sorry for these people. It’s one thing to believe or not believe, but to spend your time campaigning for nothing seems like a bit of a waste of time and money. Wow, I’m surprised the Democrats have passed on an opportunity to waste time and money. I didn’t know there was one they didn’t embrace.

Let me be clear. I am committed to defend their right to say what they want and mount whatever campaign they choose. But I find it humorous and, frankly, a little sad. If you want a good laugh, check out the video.

Last night (Tuesday Sept 1st), President Obama hosted an iftar (A dinner to break the fast of Ramadan. This dinner was organized to celebrate Ramadan (a month-long period of prayer for the Muslim religion). This is nothing new and not a bad thing at all. This was a common occurrence in the Bush White House as well.

This may prompt the question, “How is this a hypocritical stance on religion?”

Back in May, when asked why, unlike other administrations, he chose not to have a public ceremony celebrating the National Day of Prayer, the White House response was “Prayer is something that the president does everyday,” He signed a proclamation and held no public ceremony. So, if prayer is a private thing for an interfaith day, why is it cause for a public celebration for a Muslim celebration? Seems a little hypocritical to me.
